Privacy Policy

nudj. ("the app", "we", "us") is a natural-language reminder and alarm app for Android. You type or speak a reminder in plain language, or photograph a schedule such as a prescription or timetable, and the app works out the date, time and recurrence and rings an alarm for it. This policy explains what data the app handles, why, and who it is shared with. It reflects how the app works today and will be updated as features change.
The short version.
- Your reminders live on your device by default. Signing in with Google is optional and only used to back them up and to help your alarms reach you.
- When you type, speak or scan a reminder, that one request is sent to AI services only to understand it, then the result comes back to your device.
- We do not sell your data, show ads, or run third-party analytics or trackers.
What data we process
Reminder text you type
The words you type are sent to our backend, which forwards them to an AI service provider to interpret the reminder (title, date, time, recurrence). If that provider is temporarily unavailable, the same request may be handled by a backup AI provider instead. The result is returned to your device and stored locally. The text is used only to fulfil that request; we do not keep it in a user database on our server.
Voice recordings (only when you use the mic)
If you record a voice reminder, the audio is handled in one of two ways depending on the language:
- For English and many other languages, speech is transcribed on your device by Android's built-in speech recogniser. The audio does not leave your phone.
- For Indian languages (such as Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam) and "Auto detect", the audio is sent to our backend and forwarded to a speech-recognition AI provider for transcription.
The transcribed text is then interpreted as above. Audio sent for transcription is used only to transcribe your request and is not retained by us after the response.
Photos and documents you scan
If you use Scan a Schedule, the image or PDF you choose (for example a prescription, medicine schedule or exam timetable) is sent to our backend and forwarded to an AI service provider to read it. For some handwritten documents a second AI provider may also read it, to make sure nothing is missed, before it is turned into reminders.
A scanned document may contain health-related information (such as a prescription). It is processed only to create the reminders you then review and confirm. Our server does not store the image or its contents after the response; the AI providers above process it under their own privacy policies.
Account information (only if you sign in with Google)
Signing in is optional. If you choose Sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address from Google to identify your account, and your reminders are backed up to Supabase (our database provider) so you can restore them or sync across devices. Access is restricted so that only your account can read your own reminders. If you do not sign in, no account is created and nothing is uploaded.
Alarm backstop
So an alarm can still ring if the alarms saved on your phone have lapsed (for example if you haven't opened the app for a long time), our server keeps a list of your upcoming alarm times and your phone's push-notification token (from Firebase Cloud Messaging), and sends your phone a silent wake-up signal at those times. If you are not signed in, this list holds only the times and an internal reminder number, with no reminder titles, name, email or account; your phone fills in the title itself. If you are signed in, the list is kept in your account and also includes the titles. Entries are deleted two days after their time. It is used for nothing else.
Watching for an event's date (optional)
When you ask nudj. to watch for a date that hasn't been announced yet (for example a film release, a match or a concert), we store your phone's push-notification token (from Firebase Cloud Messaging) next to the name of each event you watch, with no name, email or account attached. When the date is announced, moved or cancelled, our server uses it to send your phone a silent signal so the reminder can be set even if the app is closed. When you stop watching an event, its entry is removed. It is used for nothing else.
Sending a reminder or inviting a friend (optional)
When you send someone a reminder, or invite a friend to an event you're watching, the link you send holds that reminder or event (its title, date, time and how often it repeats, or the event's name and how early you want reminding) and, if you're signed in, your first name, so they see who sent it. We don't store the link or who you sent it to, and nothing is added to their phone unless they say yes. If they install nudj. from the link, the app reads the Play Store's install referrer once on its first launch, only to offer them that same reminder or event.
Welcome questions (optional)
When you first open nudj., it asks a few optional questions: what you tend to forget (for example medicines, bills or events you've waited ages for), whether you lose count of habits or doses, and where you heard about the app. Your answers are used on your phone to pick useful examples. If you answer them, we also store a copy anonymously, under a random install code made on your phone, with no name, email or account attached, so we can see what our users need and what brought them here. You can skip every question.
Reminders, alarms and settings
By default these are stored locally on your device. If you are signed in, a copy is also stored in your Supabase-backed account for backup and sync. The app includes Export/Import so you can keep your own backup file.
What we do not collect
We do not collect your location, contacts or advertising identifiers, and we do not run ads or third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
Device permissions (Android)
- Microphone: only to record voice reminders when you tap the mic.
- Camera: only to photograph a schedule when you use Scan a Schedule.
- Notifications: to show alarms and the "missed reminder" notice.
- Alarms & reminders (exact alarm): to ring at the exact time, even in battery-saving (Doze) mode.
- Run at startup (boot): to re-arm your scheduled alarms after the phone restarts, so you don't lose them.
- Foreground service, vibrate & keep awake: so an alarm can ring, vibrate and stay ringing until you dismiss it.
- Ignore battery optimisation (optional): asked once, so aggressive power settings don't stop your alarms from firing.
Third-party services (sub-processors)
- AI service providers: understand the reminders you type or say, transcribe Indian-language voice input, and read the schedules you scan. They receive only what each request needs, process it to return a result, and work under their own privacy and data-protection terms.
- Google Sign-In: optional sign-in. Privacy policy
- Supabase: stores your reminder backup and alarm backstop data if you sign in. Privacy policy
- Google Firebase (App Hosting and Cloud Messaging): hosts our backend, which proxies the AI services above so our API keys stay off your device, and delivers alarm wake-up signals to signed-in users. Privacy policy
We send these services only what is needed to fulfil your request. We do not control their retention practices; please refer to their policies for details.
Data retention
Reminders and settings remain on your device until you delete them or uninstall the app. If you are signed in, your backup remains in your account until you delete those reminders (which syncs the deletion) or ask us to remove your account data. Upcoming-alarm entries for the backstop are removed after they are sent or become outdated. Anonymous welcome-question answers are kept to count trends and are never linked to you. Text, audio and images sent to the AI services are processed to fulfil the request and are not stored in a database by us.
Your choices and rights
- Prefer not to use voice or scan? Just type instead. The mic and camera are only used when you tap them.
- Don't want a cloud backup? Don't sign in; everything stays on your device.
- Signed in and want to stop? Sign out in Settings, and delete your reminders to remove the cloud copy.
- Want everything gone? Clear the app's data or uninstall it (use Settings → Export first if you want a backup).
- Want your account data deleted? See how to delete your account, or email us at the address below and we will remove it.

nudj. is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
